Mike Pryce is the hero of our story. Having lost two important father figures,
Mike has grown closed off from other people, making it difficult for him to keep friends.
He is, however, intensely loyal to the ones who do stick with him.
He is very focused and will dismiss any distraction once he latches onto something.
While he has no distinct career ambition, his long friendship with Dr. Walton inspired
a love for science, logic, and problem solving. Mike feels discouraged by how few prospects
there are in research fields, and thinks that even if he could get one, it would be something
mundane like developing new dye colors for Sting soft drinks. Unable to conceive of a
satisfying career path, Mike has avoided making college plans for some time now.
